Arrest Made in Vandalism on Capitol Campus

Olympia – A Burien man was cited and released early Saturday morning after damage to the Temple of Justice was discovered. The Temple of Justice hosts the Washington State Supreme Court and is located north of the Capitol Building. Troopers were notified of the damage and responded to the area where Michael Stinnette, who matched the description given, was contacted. A check of surveillance video confirmed the subject had broken a lamp, stuck a butter knife into the door frame and damaged other items.

After being cited and released, further investigation showed that the male had damaged other buildings on campus including the old GA building and the Helen Sommers Building. Damaged on the GA building were a fire alarm panel and door card reader. The Helen Sommers Building had a card reader and landscaping damaged. A thorough investigation is being conducted and charges will be forwarded to the Thurston County Prosecutors when completed. Department of Enterprise Services is working on estimates of the damage done.
