Clark County, WA – On Sunday, January 31, 2021, at approximately 9:48 AM, Washington State Patrol (WSP) Troopers responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) just north of exit 16 near La Center, WA. A deceased female was discovered face down on the right shoulder by passing motorists. When troopers arrived on scene they quickly learned this incident was a fatal hit and run collision. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office was able to identify the deceased female as Kendra Fain, a 33 year old woman from Southerlin, OR. Troopers initially thought a gold/white SUV was involved in the collision.

WSP Detectives, along with members of the Clark County Major Crimes Unit, were able to identify Lacee Cabrera as a person of interest in this fatal hit and run incident. Through their investigation, it was learned Cabrera was driving the vehicle, a white Toyota 4-Runner, which killed Fain. The two women were familiar with each other and detectives discovered that Fain exited the vehicle from the front passenger seat during an argument, falling to the ground from the SUV while traveling at freeway speeds. Cabrera failed to remain at the scene or report the incident to 911 and continued driving southbound towards Vancouver.

Although detectives have made an arrest, it is still an active investigation. WSP Detectives are seeking any additional witnesses to the collision or the actions of the white 4-Runner leading up to or after the collision. If you have information regarding this fatal hit and run collision, please contact Detective Sergeant Justin Maier at (360) 449-7941 or Justin.maier@wsp.wa.gov.
