King County: Just before midnight last night, September 9, 2021, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received information from the Seattle Police Department (SPD) that they were in pursuit of a Vehicular Homicide suspect and lost sight of the vehicle on Aurora Ave near 205th.

SPD officers were able to locate the vehicle and advised WSP they were in pursuit SB I-5 near 175th and a short time later asked if WSP would take over the pursuit.  Permission was granted by a WSP sergeant and troopers took over the pursuit just south of the Ship Canal Bridge.

WSP aircraft was approaching the area and once it was over the pursuit troopers backed off and let the pilot follow the suspect.  Troopers had set up spike strips further south on I-5 and were able to successfully spike the suspect vehicle in an effort to end the pursuit.  The suspect continued but at a speed of just below 50mph instead of 100mph.

A WSP sergeant took advantage of the lower speed and performed a Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver and successfully ended the pursuit.  The driver was taken into custody and turned over to SPD to continue their investigation of Vehicular Homicide.

Great job by SPD officers and WSP troopers for apprehending the suspect without anyone being injured!
