TACOMA – Washington State Patrol (WSP) detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect of a drive by shooting that occurred on northbound Interstate 5 near South 38th Street in Tacoma earlier this week.
The incident occurred at around 8:02 p.m., on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Witnesses say a silver Kia passenger car, possibly an Optima, was observed entering northbound Interstate 5 from South 56th Street. The Kia immediately began tailgating a silver 2012 Acura RDX SUV. Both vehicles continued northbound approaching South 38th Street when the driver of the Kia drove onto the right shoulder and beside the Acura. The driver of the Kia fired a single shot into the Acura’s passenger side door. The round traveled through the rear passenger side door and exited through the rear driver’s side door. The silver Kia continued northbound on I-5.
Witnesses described the driver of the Kia as a white or light-skinned Hispanic male in his early 20s with black hair and a five o’clock shadow. While unable to determine the vehicle’s exact license plate information, the Kia was described as having Washington state license plates. Anyone who may have witnessed road rage or aggressive driving behaviors on northbound I-5 between S 56th St and S 38th St around 8 p.m. may be able to provide valuable information.
WSP Detectives request assistance to locate the suspect and vehicle. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Tessa Schahfer at (253) 538-3172.
