Troopers Save A Pedestrian In Distress On I-5

WSP Media Release Cover

May 14, 2023

King County: At approximately 6:00am yesterday, May 13, 2023, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received a call of a female pedestrian SB I-5 near the West Seattle Freeway walking in traffic in an apparent attempt to be struck by vehicles.

Troopers responded to the area and thankfully an American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance was holding back traffic to keep the pedestrian as safe as possible.  Once troopers arrived the pedestrian was walking in the HOV lane at which time she climbed onto the concrete barrier and was threatening to jump.  Troopers offered options to the subject that she refused to accept at which time two troopers grabbed the subject to prevent her from jumping.

AMR agreed to transport the subject to Harborview for evaluation where she was subsequently admitted.

This is just one example of many situations troopers respond to on a daily basis to insure the safety of those that are in distress and intend to cause self-harm.

Great job and a heartfelt thank you to American Medical Response for the actions taken to prevent a tragic outcome!
