TACOMA, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is seeking witnesses to a drive-by shooting that injured a 40-year-old Tacoma man on southbound Interstate 5 near 38th Street early Monday morning.

The victim was driving a blue 2005 Audi A8 on southbound Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Dome just after 1 a.m. on July 3, 2023, when a black Honda Accord began tailgating him. The victim sped up in an attempt to create distance, but the Honda followed him, reaching speeds of up to 120 miles per hour (mph).

As the vehicles passed 38th Street the victim moved to the right to allow the Honda to pass. As the Honda was passing the victim on the left, one of the occupants fired three shots at the victim’s vehicle. One round traveled through the driver’s door and struck the victim’s left foot. The suspect vehicle then fled southbound.

Witnesses have been unable to provide investigators with any further details about suspects and their vehicle.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or may have more information regarding the suspect vehicle and its occupants is asked to contact Detective Travis Calton at (360) 918-4032.
