WSP Seeks Witnesses to Sumner Shooting

SUMNER, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is seeking witnesses of a shooting that occurred last week on southbound State Route 167 near 24th Street.

The victim was driving a white U.S. Foods semi-truck around 9 a.m. on Thursday July 27, 2023, in the right lane of southbound state Route 167 near 24th Street. An early 2000s black Chevrolet Trailblazer with blue painters’ tape over the rear windows passed the semi on the right shoulder before merging into the lane directly in front of it. The semi-truck moved to left lane. The driver of the Trailblazer fired one shot from a handgun toward the truck, striking the engine compartment. The driver of the Trailblazer then fled the scene. The Trailblazer was later found abandoned on 37th Street southeast in Auburn.

Thankfully no one was injured in this incident.

The driver of the Trailblazer was described as a thin white male with no facial hair, wearing a baseball hat.

Witnesses have so far been unable to provide investigators with any further information about the suspect.
