January 30, 2024

BREWSTER, Wash. – A 38-year-old Okanogan man was taken into custody Monday night after leading law enforcement on a 40-mile long pursuit that ultimately ended with the driver barricading himself in his vehicle.

A Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper contacted the 38-year-old man in his 2000 Honda Accord just before 7 p.m. in the 600 block of Main Street in Brewster, having realized it was a vehicle that had previously fled from the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO). The driver was believed to have outstanding warrants, including a domestic violence court order violation.

While interacting with the driver, the trooper observed signs of possible impairment. As the trooper notified the 38-year-old man they were under arrest, the driver subsequently fled the stop heading south on State Route 97, resulting in a 40-mile-long multi-agency pursuit.

Involved law enforcement utilized spike strips and PIT maneuvers in attempts to immobilize the fleeing Honda, which finally came to a stop near on State Route 97 near Orondo. The driver ultimately barricaded themselves inside the vehicle, prompting the response of the East Cascade Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. East Cascade SWAT responded and was able to take the 38-year-old driver into custody. For more information on the East Cascade SWAT Team’s response, please see their media release.

The man was medically cleared before being booked into the Okanogan County Jail for felony eluding, driving under the influence, malicious mischief, and resisting arrest. The roadway as blocked for approximately four-and-a-half hours during the investigation.
