Don’t Push Your Luck This St. Patty’s Day

March 14, 2024

Southwest Washington – To combat the often-deadly problem of impaired driving, the Washington State Patrol is teaming up with local law enforcement agencies throughout Southwest Washington this weekend, cracking down on impaired drivers.

“Stopping impaired driving takes all of us working together,’ says Jesamie Peters, Washington State Traffic Safety (WTSC) Region 6 Target Zero Manager. “Things don’t always go as planned, so making sure you have a plan is key to keeping yourself and everyone else safe on the road.”

As we approach the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, WSP and WTSC wants to remind motorists it only takes a few minutes to make a responsible decision that may prevent a tragedy that will result in life-lasting impacts. It is important to remember this, in Washington State, impaired driving is defined as:

    • Driving while impaired by alcohol
    • Driving under the influence of drugs, including marijuana, with a THC blood concentration of 5.00ng
    • Driving with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or higher

Additional patrols from the Washington State Patrol and other local law enforcement agencies will be looking for dangerous driving behaviors that cause serious injury and fatality collisions such as aggressive driving, speed, unrestrained occupants, and impaired driving. Have a shamrockin’ time this weekend by planning your safe ride home!
