Trooper’s Foot Run Over By A Hit And Run Driver

May 24, 2024

King County: At approximately 10:15pm last night, May 23, 2024, a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper was on a traffic stop SB I-405 near NE 70th in Kirkland, Washington.

They were returning to their patrol vehicle and checked traffic to make sure no vehicles were approaching in lane 1.  The trooper observed a vehicle in lane 2 and began to approach the driver door to reenter the patrol vehicle.  The vehicle in lane 2 abruptly changed to lane 1 and was heading right for the trooper who was thankfully able to spin in front of the patrol vehicle, however as the vehicle passed it ran over the foot of the trooper and continued southbound I-405. The trooper sustained a foot sprain, bruising and pulled muscles.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a Toyota Rav4 but detectives are not certain.

WSP detectives are seeking any witnesses that were in the area at the time this occurred. Please email Detective Haake at Russ.Haake@wsp.wa.gov.
