January 30, 1951: The McClary Convalescent Home fire in Hoquiam killed 21 residents. Washington State Legislature passed SB189 which established regulation and enforcement of nursing homes in the state. Fire protection authority was given to the State Fire Marshal’s Office to include inspections.
