1991: Spokane Fire Storm started when fierce winds coupled with 42 days of drought lead to severe fire conditions and resulted in the loss of two lives, destroyed 112 homes and burned 50,000 acres. The fire overwhelmed local resources and spurred the Legislature to create the Fire Resources Mobilization Plan to organize and deploy state resources during wildfires that overwhelm local resources. The plan has been updated several times, notably in 1995 to include all hazards.
