March 8, 2025

King County: At approximately 10:15am yesterday, March 7, 2025, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received 9-1-1 calls reporting a very serious collision NB I-5 near SR 599.

Further information revealed that a black 2013 Toyota Highlander was traveling on the ramp from NB I-5 to NB SR 599 when it struck the right-side barrier, crossed to the left and went over the side of the overpass and landed on NB I-5. Prior to falling onto I-5 one of the occupants was ejected and ended up on the ramp. Another occupant was ejected after the vehicle went over the side and sadly was pronounced deceased at the scene. A third occupant was transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.

Once the Highlander landed on NB I-5, three additional vehicles were involved in a collision. A couple occupants of these vehicles were transported to the hospital with injuries.

The occupant of the Highlander that was ejected on the overpass fled the scene on foot and was detained a few minutes later by a trooper and brought back to the scene. This individual was determined to be the driver and was placed into custody for Felony Hit and Run.

The suspect was identified as Daud S. Mohamud, 30 years-old from Auburn, Washington. He was medically cleared at Harborview Medical Center and subsequently booked into the King County Jail for investigation of Felony Hit and Run – Death and Felony Hit and Run – Serious Injury.

WSP detectives are seeking anyone that witnessed this collision or the black Toyota Highlander prior to the collision. Please email Detective Ford at John.Ford@wsp.a.gov.
