Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness Day

May 5, 2022

  • May 5th is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women and Girls. The victimization of our Native communities is disproportionate to the population.
  • In 2017 Senate resolution declared this day in response to the demands for justice following the murder of Hanna Harris at the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in 2013.
  • A list of missing Native persons is posted bi-monthly on our website at https://wsp.wa.gov/crime/alerts-missing-persons/missing-indigenous-persons/
  • You can show awareness by wearing red on May 5th and posting #MMIWG on your social platforms, there are virtual and in person running and walking events, and plenty of virtual opportunities for education and awareness on this day.
