NICS TRAINING ONLINE SESSION 1

April 24, 2024 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

NICS Class

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is a computerized system designed to immediately determine a person’s eligibility to purchase a firearm by conducting a search of available records.

Use of the NICS is authorized to law enforcement agencies for the following:

      1. When a person is applying for or renewing their CPL
      2. When an agency is releasing a firearm from evidence.

The Washington State Patrol Firearms Background Division uses NICS when processing a firearm transfer for a person purchasing a firearm.

It is highly encouraged that agency personnel who are involved with processing CPL applications or releasing a firearm from evidence attend NICS training.

NICS training sessions are intended to provide knowledge of the NICS process, the databases it inquires upon, the Federal Prohibitors, the Washington State Prohibitors, the NICS Indices, and the CPL appeal process. Classes will be split into the following two online sessions:

Session 1: NICS Introduction, Federal Prohibitors (g)(9), (g)(6), (g)(3), (g)(4) and their Washington State equivalents.

Session 2: Federal Prohibitors (g)(8), (g)(2), (g)(7), (g)(5), (g)(1), (n) and their Washington State equivalents.

Registration is required.
