Hansen Road Overpass Detour on I-90 in Moses Lake

January 22, 2026

Grant County, Wash- The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is warning motorists to obey the official detour route for the exit 174 Hansen Road overpass closure, and not to make illegal U-turns in the median of I-90.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has closed the Hansen Road overpass over I- 90 for repairs The established detour for westbound traffic to access Hansen Road south of I-90, and for motorists southbound on Hansen Road wishing to travel eastbound I-90, is to continue west and take the Hiawatha Road (Exit 169) to turn around. The detour for eastbound traffic to access Hansen Road north of I-
90, and northbound Hansen Road traffic wishing to travel westbound I-90, is to continue east and take Broadway Ave. (Exit 176) to turn around.

The WSP has received reports of motorists using emergency vehicle turnouts in the median of I-90 west of Hansen Road. Not only is this illegal, but it is extremely dangerous. These turnouts are clearly marked with No U-Turn signs and are specifically designated for use by emergency vehicles and other specifically authorized vehicles only.

Motorists are reminded that not only is it extremely unsafe, but using emergency turnouts, or other sections of the median on a divided highway are in violation of RCW4 46.61.150 which carries a monetary penalty of $437.

It is unknown how long the detours will be in place. The safety of the motoring public is the highest priority for the WSP. Troopers will be monitoring the activity around the established detours and will be enforcing all traffic laws to ensure safe travel and to avoid any serious injury or fatality collisions.
