2019 Annual Report: Chaplaincy Program

2019 Chaplain In-Service.

Senior Chaplain Neil and Regional Director Mike Ryan.

2019 Chaplain of the Year – Cherie Grimes from District 1.

Overview

In 2019, the Chaplaincy Program has been growing and continuing to earn the right to serve.  To be a chaplain is to continue to grow and become a student of the profession and become more professional.  Overall, there are 23 volunteers spread out across the state.  Each year our program holds a one week In-Service training to bring the program together.

Successes of 2019

In 2019, the Chaplaincy Program recruited:

  • Retired WSP Trooper, Rich Bosman serving in Whatcom County
  • Business Executive, Christopher Mael serving in Snohomish County
  • Retired Deputy Sheriff, Samantha Humphrey serving in Pacific County
  • Hospital Chaplain and Army National Guard Chaplain, James Fowler serving in Pierce County

In 2019, Senior Chaplain, Mike Neil, was elected to represent the International Conference of Police Chaplains in Region 2, (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Alaska) as the Regional Director.  Chaplain Neil will lead a team of State Representatives who work to insure that first responder chaplains receive training and support to serve effectively within their agencies.

The Washington State Patrol Department Psychologist and the chaplain’s role is not to advance religion, but to provide comfort, care, and a confidential listening ear to employees facing challenges both at home and on the job.  It is always a challenge to find the right people.

If you know someone who has a heart to serve in this special capacity, please contact Senior Chaplain Mike Neil at Mike@mdneil.com.
