Ridgefield – You are cordially invited to join the Washington State Patrol Motor Carrier Safety Division to celebrate the grand opening and dedication of the newly built Ridgefield Port of Entry (POE). As part of the dedication ceremony, a memorial plaque for Weight Control Officer Joseph Modlin will be unveiled.
Officer Modlin died in the line of duty on August 15, 1974. He was killed when he was struck by a logging truck, and is the only Commercial Vehicle Officer to be killed in the line of duty. At the time of his death, Officer Modlin had served six years with the Washington State Patrol.
The Ridgefield Port of Entry weighs and inspects commercial vehicles entering Washington from the southwest area of the state. These facilities help make Washington roads safer by ensuring the more than 150,000 commercial motor vehicles traveling north on I-5 every month are in compliance with vehicle equipment, weight and driver regulations.
The facility is equipped with Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN). CVISN is a sorting tool that allows commercial vehicles to be weighed, measured and have license plates read while travelling at freeway speed. CVISN is leveraging technologies to improve commercial vehicle operation safety, efficiency and effectiveness; ultimately creating transparent borders for commercial vehicle operations and affiliated stakeholders throughout the Pacific Northwest, nationally and internationally.
The ceremony will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 11:00 am to noon at the Ridgefield POE, located at 29317 Northwest Interstate 5, Ridgefield WA 98642.
