Suspect Arrested In Road Rage Shooting On I-5

King County: At approximately 1 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2020, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received a 9-1-1 call stating that there was a shooting SB I-5 approaching S. 320th in Federal Way.

Once troopers arrived they determined that the suspect and the victim were involved in a road rage incident on the freeway and the victim pulled to the right shoulder with the intent of letting the suspect pass and break contact with him. The suspect instead pulled to the shoulder behind the victim at which time the victim exited his vehicle and approached the suspect vehicle. The suspect retrieved a handgun from the glove box and as the victim turned to walk away, the suspect fired one shot striking the victim in the abdomen. The suspect then fled the scene in a 2013 Mazda. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.

Detectives assigned to the case were able to obtain a positive identification of the suspect through the registration and the victim with the use of a photo montage. It was also determined that the suspect is a civilian employee of the Seattle Police Department of which they were advised. The address for the suspect was checked shortly after the shooting and it was determined that he was not at the residence. A more current address was obtained today and an arrest warrant was applied for and granted.

At approximately 5:40 pm today, the warrant was served at a residence in Bellevue. The suspect Peter L. Garrido, 30 year old male was taken into custody and booked into the King County Jail on investigation of Assault in the First Degree.
