State Fire Marshal’s Office Recognizes Home Fire Sprinkler Week

May 18, 2021

Olympia – The State Fire Marshal’s Office is proud to join fire service agencies around the state in recognizing Home Fire Sprinkler Week.

The furnishings in your home can now burn faster and hotter than ever before. This is primarily due to the use of more synthetic materials in home furnishings and more open interior spaces. A fire in your home can grow quickly and become deadly in two minutes or less.

Home fire sprinkler systems respond quickly when a fire starts and begin spraying water on the fire while it’s still small. Only the sprinkler head closest to the fire will activate, spraying water on the fire and not the rest of the home. A single fire sprinkler head activation can control or put out a fire with 1/10th of the water that would be used by fire department hoses. This keeps heat, flames, toxic gases, and smoke from spreading rapidly throughout your home and gives your family the time to get outside safely.

Home fire sprinklers can be installed in new or existing homes. If you are remodeling or building a new home, ask your contractor or builder to install home fire sprinklers.
