WSP Seeking Witnesses to Fatal Hit and Run Collision

MOUNT VERNON – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is actively investigating a fatal car versus pedestrian collision that occurred in the Big Lake area of Skagit County on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

An unknown vehicle was traveling an unknown direction on State Route 9 in the area of milepost 47 near Cooma Place at approximately 8:05 p.m. The driver of the vehicle, described by witnesses as a neutral colored passenger car, struck a pedestrian in the northbound lane. The running vehicle is likely to have significant front-end damage.

WSP troopers and detectives responded to the scene to investigate. Detectives received reports a pedestrian matching the description of the deceased was observed in the area running in and out of the roadway approximately 45 minutes prior to the collision.

WSP detectives are attempting to gather further information regarding the pedestrian and fleeing vehicle. The pedestrian and fleeing vehicle were likely to be in the northern Big Lake area between 7:50 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. that evening.
