Pierce County law enforcement team up for ‘HiVE’ patrol on State Route 7

TACOMA, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol (WSP), Puyallup Police Department, and Lakewood Police Department combined their efforts to reduce serious injury and fatality collisions, as well as interdict crime during a “High Visibility Enforcement” (HiVE) patrol on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022.

The emphasis was the first of four scheduled HiVE patrols occurring in and around Pierce County over a four week period with saturation patrols during times peak times of collisions and crime, as dictated by agency collected data. The patrol was in conjunction with efforts across the state.

Future HiVE patrols are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26, Saturday, Dec. 17, and Saturday, Dec. 31, all within Pierce County.

The results from the Nov. 19 HiVE are as follows during the 6-hour saturation patrol of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

Total traffic stops: 87
Total violations observed: 150
Speed contacts: 48
Distracted driving contacts: 7
Seatbelt violations: 13
Criminal offense citations/arrests: 13

The patrols success were thanks to the combined efforts of PPD, LPD, WSP, Washington State Department of Transportation, WSP aviation, and the proactive, safe driving efforts of the motoring public.
