TACOMA, Wash. – Washington State Patrol (WSP) detectives are seeking the public’s help with identifying and locating the driver of a dark-colored Chevrolet Cruze involved in a road rage shooting incident that seriously injured an 11-year-old child on Interstate 5 near the Tacoma Mall this afternoon.

The incident was reported at 2:22 p.m. involving the Chevrolet and a black Honda CRV, both traveling northbound on I-5 approaching the area of the Tacoma Mall.

Exact details regarding what led to the road rage are still being determined, but at one point, witnesses say the driver of the Chevrolet opened fire toward the Honda, tragically striking an 11-year-old child sitting in the rear passenger seat. The Chevrolet was last seen on state Route 16 exiting to Sprague Street.

The driver of the Honda drove the injured child to Tacoma Fire Station 11 off 38th Street and McKinley Avenue seeking help. Aid transported the child to an area hospital to treat serious injuries sustained during the shooting.

Additional details are limited at this time as detectives collect evidence and interview witnesses in the early stages of the investigation.
