Witnesses Sought In I-5 Double Fatality

King County: At approximately 3:00 am on February 26, 2023, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received a 9-1-1 call reporting a multiple vehicle collision SB I-5 near the West Seattle Freeway.
Further reports indicated that two individuals were unresponsive and another individual was laying on the roadway.
Once on scene troopers were able to determine that an initial two car collision had occurred at which time the driver of one of the vehicles exited to look at the damage. Subsequently a Jeep Wrangler that was traveling SB I-5 collided with the two vehicles involved in the initial collision. The driver and passenger of this vehicle exited the Jeep and fled on foot.
Unfortunately the two unresponsive passengers in one of the initial vehicles were pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver that was outside of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center.
WSP detectives are seeking any witnesses to this tragic collision along with anyone that observed or has information on the two individuals that fled the scene. Please contact Detective Haake at Russ.Haake@wsp.wa.gov.
UPDATE: The suspect driver of the Jeep has been identified as Anthony Lopez, 20 years old, last residing in Renton. The King County Prosecutor’s Office has filed 2 counts of Vehicular Homicide, 1 count of Vehicular Assault and Felony Hit and Run. A warrant for $250,000 was issued for the arrest of Anthony Lopez.
