King County: At approximately 2:40pm last Saturday, July 1, 2023, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received a 9-1-1 call reporting an individual throwing rocks at cars NB I-5 near the West Seattle Freeway.

Prior to troopers arriving one of the drivers of a vehicle that was struck could see more rocks being thrown and was able to locate an individual about 20 feet off the roadway in the bushes actively throwing rocks onto the freeway. The driver yelled at the individual to stop at which time rocks were thrown in his direction.  Thankfully he did not sustain any injuries.

Once troopers arrived the victim directed them to where the suspect was and an arrest was made without incident.

The suspect was identified as Jerald A. Grochowski, 45 years old.  He was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of Malicious Mischief 2nd and Assault 2nd.

The Washington State Patrol is encouraged that an arrest was made in this crime as this is extremely dangerous.  At this point in the investigation there is no information that ties this suspect to other rock throwing incidents that occurred last week.  WSP is continuously seeking information on these types of crimes.  Please email Trooper Johnson at Rick.Johnson@wsp.wa.gov if you have information pertaining to any rock throwing incidents.
