WSP Investigation Into Death of Evergreen Student Continues On-Scene Portion of Investigation Has Concluded One of Two Hospitalized Students Released

December 13, 2023

OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) has completed the on-scene portion of an ongoing investigation into the death of an Evergreen State College student.

The 21-year-old Dupont, Wash., man was tragically found deceased in a campus apartment Monday night. Two additional students were transported to local hospitals with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

One of the two students, originally transported from the scene, was discharged from the hospital today. The second student continues to recover.

WSP detectives, alongside representatives from a forensic engineering firm specializing in carbon monoxide investigations, spent Tuesday investigating the apartment where the students were found. That portion of the investigation has since been completed and the building released to the college officials.

The investigation into the root cause of this tragic incident remains ongoing. We appreciate the community’s patience as we continue to work to find answers for those affected.
