TACOMA, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol (WSP), Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), Puyallup Police Department (PPD), Bonney Lake Police Department (BLPD), Tacoma Police Department (TPD), Fife Police Department (FPD), Sumner Police Department (SPD), and the Edgewood Police Department (EPD), combined their efforts to reduce serious injury and fatality collisions, as well as interdict crime during two “High Visibility Emphasis” (HiVE) patrols on March 14 and March 15.
The emphasis was the second of four scheduled HiVE patrols occurring in and around the area of Pierce County over a four-month period with saturation patrols during peak times of collisions and crime, as dictated by agency collected data.
Future HiVE patrols are scheduled in April and May – all within Pierce County.
The results from the March 14 and March 15 HiVE patrols are as follows:
• Total traffic stops: 536
• Total violations: 697
• Speed contacts: 209
• Distracted driving contacts: 47
• Seatbelt violations: 18
• Criminal citations and/or arrests: 80
The patrols were successful due to the combined efforts of all our allied agency partners, as well as the help of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), WSP Aviation, and the proactive safe driving efforts of the motoring public.
