Local Law Enforcement Team up for “Safety City”

May 7, 2024

Clark County, Washington – The Washington State Patrol (WSP), Police Activities League of Vancouver (PAL), and Clark County Target Zero Taskforce (TZT) are partnering to bring the concept of Safety City to Clark County youth!

At the of the heart of Safety City is the notion of reducing preventable tragedies amongst youth. Our mission is to equip youth with the tools necessary to remain safe and vigilant, not only at home, but in the community, on the road, and even at places like the grocery store! On May 8th and 9th, this will be put into practice for the first time in Clark County. The mock city consists of multiple stations, each covering a different safety topic geared towards the education of first graders. Students from Vancouver and Evergreen School Districts will be the first to experience the inaugural safety city. They will be led through different conversations that include water, powerline, and railway safety to name a few.

PAL was able to secure a grant from the City of Vancouver to help with the transportation of the students and educational materials that will accompany the students back to their classrooms. These types of partnerships between public and private organizations are essential in delivering the right information, to the right groups, at the time.

This first safety city will be held at the WSP District 5 Headquarters in Vancouver. Close to 700 first grade students will participate in this year’s event.
