CHELAN, Wash. – Washington State Patrol (WSP) District 6 is partnering with allied agencies at Lake Chelan to conduct a High Visibility Enforcement (HiVE) patrol with the goal of taking impaired drivers off the roadway.
This will be the second HiVE patrol this year and focusing specifically on Lake Chelan and the outlining areas.
The HiVE patrol is scheduled from May 24 to May 26 and will focus on impaired drivers. Historically, Memorial Day weekend is one of the most dangerous holidays for drivers. Our data shows fatality and serious injury collisions increase by over 50% between April and May. Driving impaired increases the chance of serious injury or fatality collisions.
HiVE patrols utilize agency data to ensure resources are placed in strategic locations at strategic times to have the most impact. Some of these resources will include K9 troopers, Drug Recognition Experts (DRE), Aggressive Driving Apprehension Team (ADAT) and the use of available allied agencies to assist.
“Memorial Day weekend is a time for friends and family to enjoy the nice weather and kick off the unofficial beginning to summer,” said District 6 Captain Daniel Richmond. “If you chose to drink, please don’t get behind the wheel.”
