WSP needs your assistance locating witnesses to a fatal collision

Wapato, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is seeking the public’s help locating anyone who may have witnessed a fatal head-on collision that occurred in the westbound lanes of interstate 82 (I-82) between Wapato and Toppenish, involving a black 2001 Ford Explorer pickup truck, a white semi-truck and trailer, and possibly a white box van with black lettering on the side.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 22, 2024, at approximately 1:50 PM. The Ford Explorer pickup was traveling eastbound on I-82 when the driver swerved toward the center median, crossed the median and struck the white semi-truck traveling westbound on I-82.

The driver of the black Explorer pickup sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision.

The WSP is looking for witnesses who may have witnessed this incident and/or may have information regarding the white box van that was in the area at the time of the collision.
