Hoopfest Weekend

This weekend, Downtown Spokane will be transformed into the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the Inland Northwest. 

TRAFFIC ALERT: This tournament will impact the area on I-90, SR2, SR195 and SR395 (Division) in the vicinity of the downtown Spokane corridor. Travelers should give plenty of time and expect longer than usual delays getting into and out of the downtown area. Keep in mind many downtown streets have been closed due to the tournament.

The Washington State Patrol, along with partners from surrounding agencies to include the Spokane Police Department, the Spokane County Sheriff Department and the Spokane Valley Police Department will have extra traffic safety emphasis patrols out for the weekend. Washington State Patrol Aviation units will be over the Spokane area assisting ground patrols to locate speeding and collision-causing violations. The aircraft being used during night operations are equipped with FLIR to assist with impaired driver detection and apprehension. The Washington State Patrol will also have an increased number of motorcycle troopers working the I-90 corridor during the emphasis weekend.

During Hoopfest, the Washington State Patrol Mobile Impaired Driving Unit (MIDU) will be staged at the Spokane Convention Center to process potentially impaired drivers. The emphasis patrols are part of a statewide emphasis to reduce speed, impaired drivers, and collision-causing violations. Extra officers will be in the greater Spokane area throughout the entire weekend. Please plan ahead, drive safe and sober or get pulled over.
