WSP Seeking Information in Fatal Hit-and-Run Near Wapato

Yakima, WA– On Sunday, October 12, 2025, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) received a report of a deceased person located along State Route 97 near milepost 71, north of Wapato. Troopers, along with deputies from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Yakama Nation Tribal Police Department, responded to the scene.

The deceased has been identified as a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

Preliminary investigation indicates the collision occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 11, 2025, between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Parts from the suspect vehicle were recovered at the scene. Investigators believe the involved vehicle may have front-end damage on either the driver or passenger side, including damage to the headlight, turn signal, and possibly the hood.

WSP detectives are seeking witnesses who may have seen a vehicle stopped along State Route 97 outside of Wapato during the early morning hours of October 11, or anyone who may have information that could help identify the suspect vehicle or its occupants.
