Juneteenth

June 19, 2021

While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on Jan 1, 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln, it was on June 19, 1865 that the federal troops arrived in Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. Since then, the historic day is celebrated as Juneteenth. The Washington State Patrol is proud to serve the community, and we are honored to celebrate this day with our country.

Earlier this year, Governor Jay Inslee signed House Bill 1016, making Juneteenth an official Washington State Holiday.
