Also spelled as Ramazan/ Ramzan, it is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims all over the world. It is a month of fasting, prayer and reflection to commemorate Prophet Muhammad’s first revelation. Observant Muslims follow a dawn to sunset fast for a period of 29 to 31 days, depending on the sighting of one crescent moon to the next. The end of the Ramadan is marked by Eid-al-Fitr.
