Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

- Dr. Andrew Cho is currently a Professor of Sociology at Tacoma Community College and chair of Sociology, Political Science, and Anthropology. He has been working in higher education since 1994 and has taught courses such as Asian American History, Sociology of Asian Americans, Race and Ethnic Relations, Sociology of Sport, and Sociology of African Americans.
- Most recently, he co-authored a chapter with Professor Sopang Men focused on the challenges facing Southeast Asian American professors that was published in Racial Battle Fatigue in Faculty: Perspectives and Lessons in Higher Education. He has also written a book chapter titled “Not in My Hood: Identity, Crime, and Policing in Seattle’s International District” appearing in Asian/Americans, Education, and Crime. In addition, Dr. Cho wrote an article on “Slavery Reparations” that was published in theEncyclopedia of Race and Ethnic Relations.
- The son of Burmese refugees, he has been awarded the prestigious “Bob Thaden Faculty Excellence Award” several times and was previously recognized by the Black Student Union as the “Most Inspirational Faculty”. A dog lover, he volunteers as a foster with Smidget Rescue. In his spare time, he enjoys playing competitive pickleball, basketball, and hanging out with his seven-year old son Darwin.
